SPEECH BY ENGR. SEBASTINE OSITA; CHAIRMAN UROMI LIKE MINDS INITIATIVE AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF ULMI SPONSORED SECONDARY SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT, 2024 EDITION
It is with a deep sense of joy and commitment to uromi community that we kick start the 4th edition of our annual football tourney.
This football tournament which has been on since 2021 was conceived by our association with a view to curb anti social activities among our young population and focus their energy on sporting activities. We have equally invested in other areas including the renovation, equipping and restocking of the uromi library where we currently put all the adhoc staff in our payroll with a view to improve the reading culture of our young people. We have also been consistent in awarding of scholarships to deserving students in federal science and technical college and institute of construction technology, uromi.
As a non governmental organization, our activities look like a drop of water in an ocean which is the reason we are appealing to government agencies at the grassroot to engage in youth friendly programmes to ameliorate the evil of drug abuse, cultism and other social vices which remain unabated in our community. The young people of today are our hope for a greater tomorrow. Ignoring their social and intellectual well being posed a lot of danger to our collective future including that of our children.
I hereby declare the 2024 ULMI football tournament open and wish all the participation team success as we anxiously await the final match which will be played in this same venue on 26th December 2024
